What is CBG?
The Cannabis sativa plant contains more than 100 different cannabinoids, active ingredients which are extracted into hemp oil and fill the receptor sites of the human endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids conduct and influence a huge range of functions within our physiology, from musculoskeletal sensation to memory function to hormone regulation.
Cannabigerol (CBG) enjoys its reputation as the “mother of all cannabinoids,” an appropriate accolade considering that it is a precursor capable of converting into many other different types of cannabinoids. In this way, it can be thought of as the “stem cell” of cannabinoids.
How are CBG Products Made?
CBG products are made by potentiating and concentrating flowers of the cannabis plant in a similar way that CBD products are manufactured. The younger the cannabis plant, the higher concentration of CBG it is likely to have. CBG is the precursor to all other cannabinoids. As the buds mature, the CBG changes into other cannabinoids such as THC, CBD, etc. However, breeders have isolated certain cultivars that retain a high amount of CBG at maturity.
Types of Extractions
CBG is found naturally in the cannabis plant. It can be concentrated into an extract through various extraction means.

CBG versus CBD
Cannabigerol (CBG) is a very different cannabinoid than cannabidiol (CBD). While a cannabis plant might contain 1/3 THC or 1/4 CBD, for example, it might only contain 1% CBG, a much rarer cannabinoid in comparison to these two better-known and more abundant molecules.
